The International Network for the Treatment of Psychoses

The International Network for the Treatment of Psychoses was founded in 1995. It was started

by Tom Andersen and colleagues to support the psychological and psychotherapeutic treatment of psychotic disorders. Many different groups from almost every Scandinavian country and other countries around the

Baltic Sea, that planned to engage in Home Treatment, joined the Network to learn more about systemic

approaches to mental disorders by using reflecting processes and need adapted treatment. From Tornio in

Finland the idea of open dialogue contributed very important impulses to further development. In the

meantime the formerly loosely connected groups managed to form a network, able to carry on over the

years and find ways to support each other in the different local groups. One of the groups in the Network

every year organizes an international meeting.

Very special is the opportunity to collaborate with philosophers like John Shotter and Anders Lindseth,

who join the meetings, give us lectures about “dialogue” and “being with … in this world of embodied

feelings and language”. They will comment our workshops and ideas, which is so important for us, working

in the psychiatric field, just to have a chance to be able to change the point of view, if necessary.
